Art taught by a true artist and dear friend Maren Conrad

I wanted to share something that I really think is exciting! My dear friend Maren is teaching art in her art studio!!! Let me just tell you that Maren is the “Bomb-diggity” ! I LOVE her and your kids will too … she is real, passionate and a real mom of three little ones under the age of 6 … so seriously … she gets it, if you love art and want your kids to learn from someone who is not only a real artist but also formally trained and educated to teach art … your kids are going to LOVE her! Both Mason and Isabel are gonna be there for sure!

Here is the 411 ..

Art with Maren Conrad

Start Date: Wednesday October 7, 2009 & Thursday October 8, 2009
Class is one day a week Wednesday OR Thursday
Times Offered:
1:45PM, 3:15PM, 5:15PM
Ages: 4 & Up
Cost: $40 class fee plus $20 supply fee per child per month
Place: 3112 O Street Ste# 21 Sacramento CA 95816

Mission Statement:
Students will receive a comprehensive art education relevant to our current place in history (We are in the Post Post Modern Art Movement – which contains movements such as Relational Art & Stuckism ) including Art History (Artists, Art Movements, Historical Framework & Overall Impact), Technical Training (Artistic Skill Development, Brush Work, Sculptural & Water Color Techniques & Two Dimensional Perspective), & Concept (After the invention of the camera, the role of the artist moved beyond being that of a visual documentation of the time, hence the “Artist Statement” and Conceptual Art genre were born). This will be done in conjunction with completing finished, framed projects.
The fundamental approach to this class moves beyond the typical “Experience” based art programs offered in abundance around town. This class is based upon the success of completing show-worthy art at every age level. The opportunity to experiment with paint and clay in an unguided self expression is amazing and can be compared to the opportunity to experiment on a piano with out taki ng lessons. This class will teach them how to “read the notes” of art in conjunction with free expression.
Most importantly, the objective of this class is to build self confidence in the Artistic field and a life-time love and understanding of Art. This class will give students the opportunity to “Wow” their parents and themselves by what they are able to produce, understand & recognize in their own art, in museums, and in galleries. Currently, in every modern country other than Japan, 90% of people have abandoned their artistic endeavors (such as drawing, sculpting, etc) by puberty. My goal is to offer children the tools essential for growing the confidence and passion needed to give them a life long positive outlet for self expression and wonderment.

About the Artist/Instructor:
Maren Conrad has her degree in Fine Art with a double emphasis on Art Education and Painting & Fine Art Furniture from California State University, Chico. Maren has a son, Hunter, who currently is enrolled in Kindergarten at St. Michael’s. Maren developed the Art Auction projects for St. Michael’s Auction in 2009 and is currently working on the projects for 2010.

Audra and Mom { before baby sister arrives} | Sacramento Maternity Photos

I’ve had the honor of getting to photograph this lovely family since R was expecting little Miss. Audra and it has been so great getting to see their family grow.

I totally enjoyed sharing a cup of tea with Miss. Audra before our session officially started!  She is just so lovely!

R’s mom is from Scotland which is where my grandmother is from and I’ve always felt a bond to this family … so it was truly a pleasure and honor to snap these photos real quick in the extreem heat!   I can’t wait to photograph the new baby!  And to have a cup of tea and chat together.  Love you guys.

Kourtney and Ekundayo {Bentley Reserve} San Francisco | Post I

Let me just start by saying that I LOVE the 40′s.  I’ve said it many a time before … but it truly is my favorite time period, and it turns out … it is Kourtney’s too!  Kourtney and EK did a 40′s inspired theme and it was fabulous.  The night before the wedding I was thinking about the day head of us and praying that Kourtney would do fingerwaves … and … SHE DID!  She was stunning!  Here is a little sneak peak part l of their day.  I have to tell you that you know it was a spectacular wedding when the dance floor is crowed because EVERYONE was dancing and the EK would not let me got home until I danced too ;-)   Love you guys.

Joaquin | Sweet Baby Boy

I’ve always considered myself super blessed to get to do what I do for a living, I get to connect on a daily basis with love, happiness, trails and accomplishments and I get to be a part of documenting them.  One of my biggest joys have been photographing my friends who have children with down syndrome.  It really has nothing to do with the fact that their children have down syndrome except that I think because of this extra chromosome makes them so special  … it seems that I connect with these children and feel a sense of deep connection with them … I really can’t explain it more than that … it’s amazing to me how, each time I spend time with Joaquin, Sheridan or even my friend Ali I leave their session and feel full-filled.  I feel like I was accepted for me in all my dorkyness and the laughter and the snuggles that I got to share with them make me feel so loved and so touched.  Their zest for life at such an early stage in life amazes me and feels me with hope and smiles.  I’m thankful that they have touched my life and I couldn’t image life without them.

I wanted to share a few images from my recent session with Joaquin and his brothers … Joaquin called our session a little earlier than I think we all had hoped … the the image of him looking into my camera … this first image … touches my soul.
