YOU.

I snapped this photo while on assignment for Maren at her art studio and it really meant so much to me.  Crazy how as artists sometimes we get caught up in the way  we think others see our work or what others are doing that we sometimes forget that what makes us an artist or what makes the people who admire our work or hire us is just that … us … or YOU.  I’ve really been doing lots of thinking about this lately because it makes me sad when people feel like they have to be one thing or another instead of being the artist that is within them … who cares what everyone else is doing … be YOU.  that is why people love you and your work.  It’s why people are drawn to you.  YOU are unique … a one of a kind …. that is what makes YOU the special and unique person you are …

SMILE …. MOMS with Cameras!

This photo brings a huge smile to my face!  These five women are near and dear to my heart … not only have I gotten the great joy of photographing all of them … but all their children!!!  How cool is that!!!  The are some of the most sweet gals I know!  I got to hang with them last Saturday and teach them a little about their cameras and we had a blast … It was so fun to hang with them and I have to tell you that when the took photos of me it was so weird … i felt so silly which is hilarious to me because I’ve pointed my lens at them so much over the past years that when the table was turned I’m sure I turned the deepest shade of red EVER!

Thanks Gerica for being such an awesome friend and for hosting our get together/workshop … you guys are all the best and I love you all dearly!

Sunshine Please

PennySylviaPhotography_img_8314
Let it be known that I’m not a huge fan of Winter. Now, I do like warm fires, popcorn with the family all snuggled on the couch watching our favorite movies under blankets, the smell of pine, hot coco, yummy wintery food, But, I’m so not a fan of the gloomy days outside. I like green! I like sunshine! I miss flowering plants and singing birdies!

I took this photo of the ivy growing from the neighbors yard on our fence. I’ve grown to love this ivy … it is green all year long! The funny thing is when we first moved into our home 11 years ago … I was like … “oh, you’ve got to cut that ivy … we can not have that ivy … it’s gotta go”. Tony was quick to take care of it … but over the years we’ve let it grow over thru the Winter so that we have some green and happy plants in our yard over this time of year. I can see this ivy from my desk at home and I love it! I have to snap a quick photo of it to share this week.

The ivy story reminds me too of the things that at first we have a quick opinion on and then it changes over time. Now, I’m not sure that I will change my mind on Winter … who knows … maybe over time … but for now … I’ll keep looking forward to Spring or at least some sunny days.

Yummy Apple Crisp

I totally could not resist the temptation to make apple crisp this evening for dessert! I bought this crazy apple peeler thingy almost 8 years ago and have never used it! Sadly, we own many an item that that is way to true for. Well, today was the day, I decided to bust that baby out and let me tell you, it’s pretty cool!

Six apples, butter, a package of sweet goodness and some waiting time and yummy, yummy is all I could hear from the dining room table!

I’m trying to take more personal photos and not just my work related images. So, while I get the hang of taking the time to capture my real life you may be so lucky as to have some silly posts about … well boring but yummy apple crisp and the awesome device you use from the Pampered Chef that slices your apples in no time!img_8319img_8320img_8322img_8324

Looking back …

shoes1I have this friend who once said … I never look back … once it’s done … it’s done. I remember that profoundly defining our friendship because I always reflect and memories are so on the forefront in my life, whether it be from when I was a child or from last week when had those tasty muffins for breakfast. I couldn’t even imagine closing the book on something once it is done or in the past … although I’m all for moving forward!  There are things better left alone … and I’m pretty good at knowing the difference. So this weekend I was working on a project that had me going through a wedding from last year and I was struck by these images … I saw them with fresh eyes and I wanted to share them … I’m a sucker for shoes … LOVE SHOES! If it was appropriate, that is where I would spend most of my extra dollars .. psst … don’t tell Tony … well, shoes or that beach house that I dream of!  Anyway, I just wanted to share them … I’m in love with this little frog too.  Living at home, my mom used to collect frogs … whenever we would go on a trip or get her something special it was always a frog … when I moved out, I vowed, I will not have a frog in the house (not dissing you mom, I love that you love ‘em) … but this little guy, if I could find him … I would totally buy him!!  I recently bought a crown just like the one he is wearing and I LOVE it … I’ll share that soon!
Have a wonderful day today and grab yourself a cup of tea or joe and think about your wonderful memories … they are sure to bring a smile.
